God of power and mercy, you call us once again to celebrate the coming of your Son. Remove those things which hinder love of you, that when he comes, he may find us waiting in awe and wonder for him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
UPDATE: I’m loving the Advent collects Grandmère Mimi is posting from the 1979 American Book of Common Prayer; in many ways they stick closer to the 1662 collects than do our Canadian versions from the Book of Alternative Services. This collect that Mimi posted today is obviously based on the one for the Fourth Sunday of Advent in the 1662 BCP:
Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen. (1979 US BCP Advent 3).
O Lord, raise up (we pray thee) thy power, and come among us, and with great might succour us; that whereas, through our sins and wickedness, we are sore let and hindered in running the race that is set before us, thy bountiful grace and mercy may speedily help and deliver us; through the satisfaction of thy Son our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be honour and glory, world without end. Amen. (1662 BCP Advent 4).
