James Keelaghan: ‘Kiri’s Piano’

One of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters doing what he does best. This is an older video of James singing his song about the Nisei, who were interned during World War Two. I have yet to hear this song without choking up.

The Canada Day music fest continues!

Two by Steeleye Span

A couple of Steeleye Span tunes to wake you up on a Saturday morning! The first is a fiery instrumental, the second demonstrates conclusively (in my view) that vocally, this current lineup is one of the strongest in Steeleye’s fifty-year career.

Oh, and in my opinion Maddy Prior is the reigning queen of current English folk music!

Steeleye Span are currently touring their new album, ‘Est’d 1969‘. Their website is here.

Steeleye Span live at Shrewsbury Folk Festival 2018

Steeleye Span is 50 years old this year. Through the years they’ve gone through several different lineups, but lead singer Maddy Prior has always been at the heart of their sound. They first made a name for themselves by taking traditional folk songs and playing them with a rock sound, and they have never strayed from that winning formula. Their most recent lineup includes some fine younger players, including Benji Kirkpatrick of ‘Faustus’ and ‘Bellowhead’, and their current sound is very strong indeed.

Explore all things Steeleye at their excellent website here.

Here they are playing a one hour set at last year’s Shrewsbury Folk Festival. Enjoy!
